About ICOFOM
The International Committee for Museology (ICOFOM) is in charge of researching, studying and disseminating the theoretical basis of museology as an independent scientific discipline, critically analyzing the main trends of contemporary museology.

Created in 1977, it is made up by members from all the continents that deal with museums-related specific functions and the social role of museums. Year after year ICOFOM organizes scientific and academic meetings in different countries to ensure significant exchanges among our professionals worldwide.

Besides, ICOFOM has brought together a wide theoretical documentary corpus through an important series of publications, the ICOFOM Study Series (ISS), which along the course of more than thirty years of permanent production, has been the greatest bibliographical collection on museology so far.

1. Support should be provided to ongoing projects:

2. New projects to be carried out in the short term:
 
    2.1 Opening an ICOFOM experts discussion forum to analyze virtual reality within the museological context.
    2.2 Development of Research Groups and Workshops in different regions worldwide to reflect on theoretical museology items, including always the participation of young ICOFOM members.
    2.3 Presentation of Dr. Vieregg's Project on The History of Museums. New
concepts.
    2.4 Publication of the ICOFOM papers selected by ARGROUP members.
  2.5 Presentation of the preliminary ICOFOM Publications Programme for
2007/2010.
    2.6 Digitalization and systematical translation of the former ICOFOM papers.
  2.7 Update of the ICOFOM Website.
  2.8 Creation of a Work Group on the revision of ICOFOM Statutes.
 
3. Annual ICOFOM Symposia, Meetings and Conferences
 
    3.1 Organization of the ICOFOM scientific and academic Annual Symposia.
    3.2 Promotion of ICOFOM Meetings (seminars, lectures, courses) in different countries to enhance the dissemination of theoretical museology worldwide.
    3.3 Carrying out of a permanent exchange between ICOFOM, ICOFOM LAM and ICOFOM Siberia experts through courses and conferences offered in different geographic regions.
    3.4 Fostering joint work with Universities, Higher Studies Institutions and High Training Centres.
    3.5 Organization of meetings or workshops with other ICOM International Committees to jointly discuss and standardize criteria on the various topics dealing with contemporary museology and its related disciplines.
 
4. ICOFOM LAM and ICOFOM SIBERIA Regional Subcommittees
 
  4.1 Permanent support shall be given to the activities carried out by
the ICOFOM Regional Subcommittees.
